How To Help in the Aftermath of Hurricane Florence
Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the families affected by Hurricane Florence, and those of us who weathered the hurricane have asked how to help.
Below are a list of relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas:
Port City Community Church
If you would like to help this church in Wilmington serve the victims of Hurricane Florence or if you and your family need help please reach out to them. Their website lists all the information for where you can donate, who to call and how to help.
15 Water Street
Ray Baca of Wilmington has organized a way for people to drop donations off or to take what the need at 15 Water Street in downtown Wilmington near the Visitor’s Center.
Brunswick Family Assistance
BFA is asking for donations such as non-perishable food items like canned vegetables, pastas, pasta sauce, canned fruit etc. Donations can be made through their facility in Shallotte designated for the food pantry not disaster relief. You can contact BFA at 910-754-4766 to donate or to help. You can also donate through their website.
Diaper Bank of North Carolina
Families with babies who were affected by Hurricane Florence are in need of diapers, which this organization works to provide, along with other hygiene necessities.

#CAREolinas
Visit North Carolina and Discover South Carolina, the states’ tourism agencies, have linked together to create a t-shirt to raise money for the relief efforts. The shirt is $20 and is made from recycled materials and reads, “We Share More Than a State Line #CAREolinas.”
Palmetto Shirt Company and Habitat for Humanity
This Columbia SC based firm is creating a “One Carolina” t-shirt and all proceeds will go to relief efforts through Habitat for Humanity.
World Central Kitchen
D.C. based chef and philanthropist José Andrés is serving meals to those in need in the Carolinas. Donations are appreciated and needed for ingredients, fuel, and other essential items for evacuees and first responders.
Mercy Chefs
Virginia-based organization is serving thousands of free meals in the towns of Wilmington, Fayetteville, and Lumberton since Hurricane Florence. You can make a donation on their website.
The Carolina Cavalry
Based in Raleigh, the Carolina Cavalry are collecting, transporting and delivering supplied to New Bern, one of the towns that suffered so much damage from the Hurricane. You can donate through their website.
Foundation for the Carolinas
Charlotte-based group is collection donations for North and South Carolina. You can donate through their website.
Direct Relief
This organization is in all fifty states and is working with healthcare providers to get medicine and supplies to everyone in need. You can donate through their website.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina
Charlotte-based organization is bringing food and water to towns affected by Hurricane Florence. You can donate through their website.
North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund
Donate through Governor Roy Cooper’s office or text “Florence” to 20222. All contributions will go to immediate needs of Hurricane Florence victims.
Local Humane and Animal Societies
Pets living in animal shelters where the hurricane hit had to be evacuated to places in other parts of the Southeast. Help these organizations by giving to places like the Humane Society of Charlotte, the Charleston Animal Society, and the Atlanta Humane society. These organizations will match all donations through the end of the month.
